MCH—Meeting the Highest Standards for Your Heart

Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States, with 600,000 dying annually of heart disease. Additionally, more than five million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain. Those are scary numbers, but there’s another number that you should know: one. One is the number of hospitals between El Paso and Dallas-Fort Worth accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). That “one” is Medical Center Hospital (MCH).

To earn the prestigious SCPC accreditation, Medical Center Hospital’s Chest Pain Center had to demonstrate expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the SCPC. On April 25, 2008, the Society granted MCH, not simply accreditation, but full Cycle II accreditation with PCI. “As a facility with Primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention), MCH is part of an elite group of approximately 100 hospitals — only 25% of accredited Chest Pain Centers are accredited with primary PCI,” explains Brenda Neckels, RN, BSN, and MCH’s Director of The Center for Heart Disease.

MCH’s Chest Pain Center (CPC), with its well-organized staff, efficient workstations, and state-of-the-art equipment, is designed for optimal patient care. Its specially trained personnel work in concert with physicians to assess, diagnose, and treat cardiac patients quickly and effectively. Notably, the CPC is not just for patients with known cardiac conditions. Medical Center won SCPC accreditation, in part, by proving it can effectively treat incoming patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms.

The newly accredited Chest Pain Center – just “one” more way MCH is meeting the highest standards in healthcare.
