MCH CareStar Offers Membership Program

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

When minutes count in a life-threatening trauma, often the best answer is an air-ambulance helicopter such as one of Medical Center Hospital's (MCH) CareStar flight programs. With two bases providing medical coverage for the Odessa and Ft. Stockton regions, CareStar is now offering area residents financial coverage as well.

MCH CareStar is introducing a membership program that is part of the AirMedCare Network, an organization that allows its members access to 136 air-ambulance aircraft stationed throughout the United States at a very minimal cost.

"We understand that providing air rescue does require a significant investment and overall costs, we are also well aware of the significant difference it can make between life and death for some of our patients," said Melonye Huber, Emergency Services Director at Medical Center Hospital. "This network allows members to pay a small annual fee and have access to air ambulance services throughout the country without having to worry about the financial cost if the need arises to be transported by an air medical helicopter."

A membership in the MCH CareStar Membership Program offers significant benefits. The network will work on the member's behalf with their benefits provider to secure payment for a flight. Whatever the benefits provider pays will be considered payment-in-full for the flight.

"This means any member of the network will be able to use the MCH CareStar service during a time of emergency without having to worry about any out-of-pocket expenses," Huber said.
"When you have an emergent helicopter transport service that consists of a highly trained flight nurse, a flight paramedic as well as a professional pilot, it is reassuring to patients in need that they're getting the best care they can possibly receive as they are transported to a hospital," stated Huber.
