The wound care team is a physician driven/based clinic that is equipped with state of the art technology for the treatment of chronic and acute wounds. Medical Center Hospital developed the Wound Care Center in 1996 under the direction of Dr. Matthew Furst. In 2006 we introduced hyperbaric oxygen as an adjunctive treatment to wound care. We currently have three HBO chambers.

Services Provided:

  • Tissue debridement
  • Conventional and Advanced Wound dressings
  • Ordering of home dressing supplies
  • Referral for offloading/pressure reduction orthotics/products
  • Assessment of vascular status
  • Transcutaneous Oximetry Testing
  • Compression Dressings
  • Coordinating surgical procedures with referring physicians
  • Coordinating correction of vascular status
  • Hyperbaric oxygen as an adjunctive therapy
  • Coordination with a dietician for optimization of nutritional status
  • Coordination with the Diabetes Center at MCH for optimization of diabetes control

Staffing: Our staffing consists of qualified clinicians that are dedicated to the advancement and promotion of excellence in the delivery of wound care to patients. The medical director is Dr. Eduardo Salcedo, MD, WCC. Eva Garcia, MPT is the director of PM&R. The team leader is Tamara Notley, MPT, WCC. There are 2 RN's that are wound care certified, and 2 PTA's of which one is wound care certified.

Location: We are located within the main hospital building on the first floor directly across from the main parking garage. There is an entrance off 4th street that leads directly into our waiting room.

Requirements to be seen by the wound care team:
Patients are seen by appointment only. In order to be treated by the wound care team, a patient must have a written prescription from a referring doctor that says "WCT outpatient evaluation" with the appropriate diagnosis on it. The patient can then call admitting at 432-640-1028 to pre-register, or that can be done online at www.mchodessa.com. The patient must then call to make an appointment at 432-640-2230.
